TOKYO (Kyodo) — Weightlifter Kanae Yagi, who represented Japan in her third straight Olympics at the Tokyo Games, is retiring from competition and will enter coaching, a source close to her said Tuesday.
The 30-year-old will start her new job from April as a coach at her alma mater, Kanazawa Gakuin University in central Japan.
A native of Hyogo Prefecture, Yagi made her Olympic debut in the women’s 53-kilogram division at the 2012 London Games.
She achieved her best Olympic result four years later in Rio de Janeiro, where she finished sixth.
